Jean Lafitte had dreamed of being a pirate since he was a young boy, against the wishes of his Jewish grandmother who tried to raise him right. Working with his brothers and uncle, his dreams came true when he became a pirate while he was still just a teenager. Soon the on life he knew was of the high seas, a life full of glory, riches, disaster and revenge. Lafitte had to fight in duels and fend off other pirates to seize gold, silver and other treasures. Simultaneously, Lafitte and his family settled in New Orleans where they became successful businessmen, although continuing with their pirating, as well as respected citizens. During the Anglo-American War of 1812, Lafitte, as a result of this dual life had became a leader to hundreds of outlaws who lived in the bayou, learned that the British were going to land in New Orleans and further North to take back America. Together they risked their lives and their ships to help win the war.
