Atlas, the most famous giant of all time, was commander of the army of Cronus in the war against Zeus. Zeus won the war and condemned Atlas to the ends of the earth, to carry the heavens on his shoulders. Atlas only received two visitors; the first Heracles, the hero who freed him for a time and the second Perseus, who turned him into the mountain in North Africa that today bears his name.
